Classification and Selection of Busbar 2012-09-25
Busbar is a conductor that connects large electric accessory such as generator, transformer and so on to various kinds of electrical installation. It is used in power station and transformer substation. It is mainly used for collecting, distributing and transmitting electricity and connecting the primary equipment. According to related statistics, most of the short-circuit accidents occur in busbar directly or indirectly. Busbar fault is one of the most serious faults in the electrical equipment fault. Therefore, the correct selection and application of the busbar is critical.
According to the shape, there are three kinds of frequently-used busbar in electric utility industry. They are rectangular busbar, slot-shaped busbar and tubular busbar.
Rectangular busbar has good heat dissipation performance. It is easy to be fixed and connected. But its skin effect is rather large. In order to reduce the skin effect, the cross-section of a single busbar does not exceed 1250 square millimeters. When the operating current exceeds the permitted current of a single busbar, two to four rectangular busbars can be tied for use. The rectangular conductor is generally used only in the distribution line whose current is below 4000A.
Slot-shaped busbar has good mechanical strength and current carrying capacity and its skin effect coefficient is also smaller. The slot-shaped busbar is generally used in the power distribution unit whose current is between 4000 A to 8000A.
Tubular busbar's skin effect coefficient is small and it has strong mechanical strength. Water and wind can go though the tube. It is heavy-current busbar. More than 8000A current can pass though it.
According to the material, busbar is divided into copper busbar, aluminium busbar and copper clad aluminium busbar
Copper has the advantages of high conductivity and strong mechanical strength. In addition to its high conductivity and strong mechanical strength, copper is corrosion resistant and easily processed. It is a good conductive material. But the copper's storage is limited and it is broadly used in other industries. Therefore aluminum takes the place of copper in electric utility induction. In addition to some special technical requirements that must use copper busbar. Generally, aluminium busbar is used in the power industry. The conductivity of aluminum is only second to copper. Aluminum is light, low cost and productive. As a general rule, aluminum busbar is more economic than copper busbar.
Copper clad aluminium busbar is thermometal composite conductor material that has aluminium core and is coated with copper. It has the advantages of aluminum and copper. It has the high-quality electrical conductivity of aluminum and the chemical stability of copper. The copper clad aluminium busbar's development space in the electrical field is extremely broad. All kinds of electrical equipment can use this busbar. In particular, the copper clad aluminium busbar is the best choice for bus duct. Because the copper clad aluminium busbar saves the limited energy and its manufacturing costs have fallen dramatically. What's more, it reduces the weight of the product and makes the installation the product easier.
