Dry Welding Electrode Important to Welding Process 2014-05-29
The welding electrode is very important to the welding process because the quality of the welding electrode can greatly influence the welding quality. The coating and the performance of the welding electrode produced by the welding electrode production line can be greatly influenced by the air moisture, management ways, storage time, etc. The welding performance of welding electrode can be weakened due to moisture absorption to cause arc instability, increased spatter, air hole generation, crack and other defects, and therefore, it is very important to dry the electrode by using the welding electrode baking oven before using it.

 

The welding electrode has different chemical compositions and the drying methods can be different. The welding electrode factory suggests that the low hydrogen type welding electrode which is also called as alkaline electrode should be baked by using the welding electrode drying oven before it is used, the drying process can reduce the hydrogen content of the electrode so as to prevent the problems of air holes and crack. The drying temperature of welding electrode oven should be set at 350℃, the drying time should be about 1 hour to 2 hours, and the dried welding electrode should be stored in the heat preservation room in the temperature of 50℃ to 100℃ for about 1 hour. The acid electrode has the drying temperature of 150℃ to 250℃, and is should be dried for about 1 hour.

 

The drying of the electrode has special requirement that the electrode should not be directly put into or taken out of the high temperature kettle so as to prevent the problems of coating crack or peeling due to sudden heating or cooling. At the same time, the electrode provided by the welding electrode factory should not be stored in a large bulk so as to let the moisture exhausted completely. The dried electrode should be stored in the drying oven so as to avoid secondary drying process because the alkaline electrode can lose its property due to the drying for several times.

 

If the electrode is stored for a long time, and it contains a lot moisture, the electrode should not be used even it is dried because it can generate a lot air holes due to the rust problem of the ferric content. The quality of the electrode is very important to ensure the welding quality of the welding process, and therefore, it should be well stored and dried when it is used.
